As we bid a fond “good riddance” to 2024, it’s good to take a look back at everything that’s happened in the last 12 months.
Firstly (and arguably most importantly), 2024 saw the relaunch of ProjectPetrolhead.com! Resplendent with weekly columns and a modern, stylish look (if I do say so myself). Being rather new to this, I sought the advice of a few experts in the field of automotive journalism, reaching out to a handful of people on social media. Of that group, The Intercooler’s Andrew Frankel and British GQ’s Alex Goy responded and provided some invaluable feedback with both of them taking time out of their days to read and comment on my inane ramblings, for which I am extremely grateful. To date, we have now seen around 2300 views worldwide (hello to the 2 people who visited the site from Ukraine, although i’m sure you have more important things to focus on!) and we’re growing all the time!

Secondly, we’ve had some great trips this year. From Festival of the Unexceptional, to Coniston Water, we have travelled far and wide to bring you interesting tidbits from the motoring world. If I had to pick a favourite, it would be my last-minute run northwards to the lake district and across to the Yorkshire dales, the roads were empty and flowing, the weather was cool and dry and the Jag was faultless.

It’s worth noting that this year we have seen some epic cars enter the fold. Even though I have lamented the growing homogenisation of the motoring world and the disappointment of what should have been 2024’s most exciting cars, we can’t ignore the fact that there have been some fabulous machines this year. From Porsche and Aston Martin’s analogue heroes, the 911 S/T and V12 Valour, to Bugatti’s world record champions, the Mistral and the Chiron Supersports 300+, the performance car world may have a way to go to recapture it’s former glory, but there’s life in the old dog yet.

Finally, I just have to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who has clicked on the site (even accidentally, those still count). Thank you to everyone who has helped me cobble together topics to keep the wheels turning (massive thanks to Rob for all your help, and a huge thank you to my Dad who has, without fail, read and “liked” every single column we’ve published). And thank you to everyone who has supported the site over the last 12 months.
So what are we up to next? Well, we have a new series of columns in the pipeline for 2025; Automotive Heroes, where we take an in-depth look at the life and work of people who changed the face of the motor industry. Keep an eye out for the first entry some time in January.
Here’s to 2025!
